Cousin Hailey…

Ben, Hannah, and cousin Hailey made the trek from Chicago to Park City for an early summer visit. The nice weather let the cousins try out a some water table splashin. Beck also quickly learned he could also easily pour water in the dogs. Classic.

From Urban to Mountain…

After a few months in Park City, I finally got the blog converted over to a more appropriate domain name.  UrbanGearDaddy is now MountainGearDaddy, and hopefully appropriately 301 redirected.  Will continue to update with the same adventures of fatherhood, outdoor, and the internets, just from a better location (in my opinion).

Week51: Beck’s First Christmas…

The Family headed back to Minny for Xmas. Unfortunately, it will probably be the last time we’ll be back for Xmas for a while as we start to develop our own traditions and have Beck experience the holidays at his own place.

It was great to be home and see the folks. Brother Ben and Hannah were also back, so Beck and Hailey got a chance to play together. Hailey is growing into quite the little girl, chatting and singing away. Beck enjoyed following her around wherever she went, basically squealing like a pig and then trying to tackle her. Needless to say, Hailey wasn’t always amused, but the rest if us certainly were.

Beck tool home all sorts of kid loot from Grandma and Grandpa, as well as from cousin Hailey. At the end if the day, his favorite toy appeared to be a string attached to a toy duck he received…classic…at least it wasn’t the typical cardboard box, although I think that came in a close second.

So fun to see the little ones experience the holidays and gifts completely without expectations…Hopefully we can get a few more years of that before those darn marketers and peer pressure gets to em…

Week50: Almost Christmas…

With Christmas coming up next week, the family took the chance to do some last-minute shopping. Beck also got his second haircut as mom won’t let me give it a whirl with the clippers. I seem to do OK on my hair, so figured I can’t do too much damage to his (I dunno how they manage to cut a straight line with that little head bobbing and weaving all over the place). As usual, Beck was his usual happy-go-lucky self.

Nicole and I also took advantage of the fresh snow and got out for a ski day. I was impressed at how much better Nicole had gotten since we went out just a few weeks ago. Really fun and happy to see here enjoying skiing ao much and fun to be able to get out together. As we passed by the bunny hill and ski school, we both commented how were really looking forward to getting Beck out next winter.

Week49: Tubin…

Nicole and I have been wanting to get Beck out to the local tubing hill for a few weeks now and finally found the chance this week.

As you can tell below, he hated every minute…

Week48: Scandanavia…

This week I was fortunate to Be able to make a trip to Scandinavia for work to visit a couple of our exclusive brands at Backcountry, Norrona in Norway and PeakPerformance in Sweden.

Was great to see a couple of new places, get some insight to a couple if great brands on their turf, and also to see our biz from the merchandising perspective, but certainly missed Nicole and Beck while I was away. Thankfully Nicole kept me updated with a few pictures and videos.

Week47: Mornings with Daddy…

I have to travel next week for business (actually this week as I’m writing a week in arrears), so I’m getting my full fill of the morning time with Beck. So much fun to watch him explore the simplest things between crawling all over me. Gonna miss ya little buddy…

Family Snowshoe’n…

Mom and Dad were able to stay a few extra days after Thanksgiving, so with the early November snow, we had the chance to get out for a little snowshoe (Mom, Dad, and Nicole shoe’d up and I tossed the skins on the ski’s while Beck went for a ride in the backpack).  It was a little windy out, so we headed up to the old standby at Robb’s Trail to get a little tree coverage.  The snow was falling as well and made for a great beautiful day.  Still hard to imagine this adventure is real, but loving every bit of it…

Week46: Turkey & Trees…

Grandma and Grandpa LaBore made the trek from Minnesota to Park City for Beck’s first Thanksgiving. It was great to have them in town for a few days and for Beck’s first Turkey. We also had the pleasure of our friends Marit, Bill, and Hazel as guests. We all were thankful to be around family (new family in the
case of Beck and Hazel) and good friends.

We had quite the feast and leftovers for days, which none of us seemed to mind. I decided to try to fry a turkey this year. It was well worth the hassle it and I think everyone would agree. Nicole also made a tasty new sweet potato dish that everyone loved. My Dad made his usual stuffing and Mom her mashed potatoes. Marit brought some awesome home-made apple and coconut cream pie as well as some dinner rolls.  Bill won the “who ate the most” award, although Hazel came in a close 2nd (girl did some damage on the sweet potatoes).

All in all, it was a great time with family and friends. It always goes a little too fast for all the effort everyone puts in. In traditional post Thanksgiving day fashion, we also put our first family Xmas tree in Park City. It was great to have Mom and Dad around to help. Given Beck’s mobility and strong desire to eat everything in sight, we went sans glass bulbs this year, just lights and tinsel. All in all, I think it still turned out pretty well. Loving life in Park City, especially now that we’re blanketed in snow…
